Three Magpies is an abstract sculpture of three magpies in conversation, commissioned by the Anchorage Museum for their front lawn. A strong presence in the area, magpies are intelligent, social birds who are known to be antagonistic and harass other animals. The sculpture is composed of six vertical elements arranged in a circle. Three are bird heads, the tallest talking with its beak wide open, a second listening with beak closed, and a third about to interject. Two of the vertical elements are tail feathers, depicted in flight and at rest, and one is shaped like a wing. A seat with three spoke with the circle invites viewers to step inside and enjoy the work from within. The seating surfaces extend outside the circle as well, offering additional seating around the periphery. Installed in summer 2024. Dimensions: 8’ x 8’ x 11’
