Waterwheel is a proposal for a large seating sculpture in the shape of a waterwheel turned on its side, an interactive “relic” from The Township’s factory mill history. Waterwheel’s aesthetics and functionality combine to engage a diverse range of people in the community by creating a prominent new gathering spot. Park users can approach the sculpture from any direction and walk around or through it. Between the curved vertical elements shaped like water paddles are seats that can be sat on facing inward, outward or by straddling the seat and leaning back against one of the water paddles. These water paddles are tall enough to serve as privacy partitions, allowing multiple individuals to have their own space from which to enjoy the park.
